今回は年末の時期の表現を取り上げました。

1.「Are you all set for the holidays?」
年末年始の休みに向けての準備整ってる？という事ですね。All set for～は、どんな状況でもありなので、買い物に行く準備できた？でも勿論使えます。
2.「Are you heading home for the holidays?」
年末帰省する？という表現。この時期になるとチラホラ聞かれる表現ですよね。勿論、年末に限らず、今から家に帰るでもhead homeでokです。
3.「Everything slows down around this time.」
この時期は何もかもスローペースになるよね。休みモードに徐々に入ってくる人もいれば、逆に忙しくなるというパターンもありますよね。
4.「I’m just trying to wrap things up before the end of the year.」
休みに向けて仕事をまとめ上げていく感じで、他の言い方であれば、finish things up, get things completedのようにも言えます。
5.「We should catch up before the year’s over.」
(しばらく会えてないから)年内に一回会おうよ、という事ですね。Catch upにはそのニュアンスがありますが、そこそこ会っているならmeet upでもOKですね。
6.「Let’s grab drinks before everyone disappears for the holidays.」
休みに入る前に一杯やっとこう、という事ですね。ちなみにhave drinks, have a drinkの違いは、単数の場合は、サクッと一杯というニュアンスを持たせられます。
7.「I’m just gonna lay low over the holidays.」
旅行やアクティブな予定は入れず、のんびり過ごす感じですね。lay lowは隠れる的なニュアンスで使われる事もあるので、catch up on some me timeみたいな言い方で表現するのもありです。
8.「The end of the year always sneaks up on me.」
年末って、いつの間にかいきなりやってきた感じになるという事ですね。突然感を出す表現は色々ありますが、例えば他にはThe end of the year caught me off guard.なんていうのもありですね。
